Community Guidelines

These rules exist for one reason: people write things here they have not said anywhere else. Intense pain and anger are understandable and welcome. They do not excuse treating another member badly.

What is never allowed

Respectful disagreement is welcome, including disagreement about reconciliation. Everything in this list is not.

  • Threats, violence, or encouragement of violence
  • Harassment, intimidation, personal attacks, and bullying
  • Hate speech or dehumanising language of any kind
  • Posting another person's private information
  • Naming or identifying an alleged affair partner or any uninvolved third party
  • Doxxing, stalking, or illegal surveillance
  • Hacking, impersonation, or unauthorised access to accounts or devices
  • Explicit sexual content
  • Spam or repetitive promotion
  • Commercial solicitation without written permission
  • Manipulative fundraising or appeals for money
  • Fraudulent claims of professional qualification
  • Encouragement of self-harm
  • Pressure or shame aimed at members for reconciling, separating, divorcing, or remaining undecided
  • Republishing another member's story outside the community without their explicit permission

Urgent situations

Some posts need more than a moderation decision. Content involving self-harm, domestic violence, child safety, criminal activity, or immediate danger is escalated to a senior moderator straight away. We respond by displaying crisis and emergency resources, contacting the member privately where appropriate, and preserving or removing material as safety requires.

What we cannot do is intervene in an emergency. Nobody monitors this site around the clock, and a post may not be read for hours. If someone is in danger now, contact emergency services or a crisis line in your country instead of posting.

Safety and crisis resources
  • Immediate danger, injury, or a threat to life: call your local emergency number without delay.
  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm: contact a suicide-prevention or crisis line operating in your country, or go to your nearest emergency department.
  • Domestic abuse, coercive control, or fear of a partner: contact a domestic-abuse helpline in your country, which can advise on safety planning confidentially.
  • Concern for a child's safety: contact your local child-protection service or the police.
  • Non-urgent but serious concern about a member here: use the contact form and choose “Report a safety concern”.

How moderation works

Moderators and administrators hold role-based permissions and act under one published process. Members normally receive a clear reason for any action, unless explaining it would create a safety, security, or privacy risk for someone.

  1. 1

    Informal reminder

A short private note pointing to the guideline in question. Most situations end here.

  2. 2

    Formal warning

Recorded on the account, with the specific guideline and the change we need to see.

  3. 3

    Temporary feature restriction

Posting, messaging, or a particular forum is paused for a defined period.

  4. 4

    Temporary suspension

Account access is paused. The reason and duration are given unless doing so creates a risk.

  5. 5

    Permanent removal

Reserved for serious or repeated harm. Appeals are reviewed by a second moderator.

What authorised staff can do

  • Review member reports and reported private messages under the published policy
  • Remove or edit prohibited material while preserving an audit record
  • Add moderator explanations to discussions and record private moderation notes
  • Issue reminders and warnings, restrict features, suspend or remove accounts
  • Review relevant account history and restrict access to sensitive forums
  • Detect and manage spam and duplicate accounts
  • Manage member appeals and publish community announcements
  • Manage forum categories and Recovery Library content
  • View a full audit trail of administrative actions

Every one of these actions is written to an audit trail that administrators can review. To appeal a decision, use the contact form and choose “Account assistance”; a second moderator reviews the case.

Policies and legal information

The following are working drafts written for this community. They must be reviewed by an appropriately qualified attorney before public launch, and the existence of a page is not a claim of legal compliance.

Terms of Use

Membership is for adults aged 18 and over who accept these guidelines. You keep ownership of what you write and grant us permission to display it within the community. Accounts may be restricted or removed for breaching the guidelines. The service is provided as peer support without warranty of any kind, and access may be suspended for maintenance, safety, or legal reasons. This is a working draft pending review by a qualified attorney before public launch.

Privacy Policy

We collect the minimum needed to run a safe community: a screen name, an email address for verification and notifications, a password we store only as a secure hash, and the content you choose to post. Email addresses are never displayed and never shared with other members. Administrators may review a reported private message when investigating a safety report, and every such access is logged in an audit record. You may export your account data or request deletion at any time from your account page. Retention periods are published and applied consistently. This is a working draft pending attorney review.

Cookie Policy

We use only cookies necessary to keep you signed in securely and to remember your display preferences. We use privacy-respecting analytics that do not build advertising profiles or track you across other websites. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, though signing in will not work without the session cookie. This is a working draft pending attorney review.
